Hi all,

Just a reminder that we're going to be locking in backerkit surveys, collecting payment for add-on content (2nd copies, saber dice trays, etc) by end of day Nov 20, PST. That's today/tomorrow depending on when you read this. Keep in mind that you can still edit address info ANY TIME - until delivery begins next year. Survey link: https://rise-of-tribes.backerkit.com/

We'll also still take pre-orders, so if you have a friend that wants in, you can still send them to www.RiseofTribes.com.

"Most Anticipated Game of 2018" - vote on BoardGameGeek
An informal poll at BGG for most anticipated, nominations from now through the end of the year, and Rise of Tribes is considered for 5 categories (original, strategy, thematic, dice-based and crowd-funded). If YOU are highly anticipating this game in 2018, please consider giving us a thumbs up:

Spieltage bound, journey continues for Rise of Tribes!
about 2 months ago – Mon, Oct 23, 2017 at 02:04:05 AM

Hi all!

A busy month in October, as Breaking Games released 2 games in retail - Asking for Trobils (2nd Ed) and Sparkle*Kitty - both selling out fast! And much has been done on Rise of Tribes as well! In this update we'll share info on the rulebook, our plans at Spiel, and info about Backerkit locking down and production about to begin.

Time Flies When You're Making Games
Here's a look at our final special animal tile decided upon by backer vote - featuring the giant condor on one of the mountain tiles in the game! Thanks again for making this special unlocked goal possible.

Rulebook Done!*
After much editing, we have what we believe is near final rulebook. I say near final because we're still counting on great catches and input from YOU! and much thanks in advance. The good news is that the rules have worked in many many blind tests. After we polish the layout on the remaining few pages, I will share an English PDF in early November. We have begun translating the cards and event tiles in 9 languages, and will do the same for the rule pages.

Breaking Games in Germany and Australia!
We are attending both Spieltage 2017 in Essen and PAX Australia 2017 - at the same time! We are very excited to bring our games outside the United States!

Rise of Tribes will likely not be with the team at PAX Aus, although if you're there be sure to say hello and see all our latest and greatest titles - Booth TT200 in PAX AUS Tabletop. Tell our staff you're a backer and that Peter said you deserve some swag! Next year - Rise of Tribes!

A Rise of Tribes early prototype copy will be with the team at Essen. Come by and say hello at Essen - Hall 7 - booth 7D 102. We won't be playing the game until the evenings at hotels/cafes and such, but happy to show it upon request. To follow along with where/when you can get a demo, the BGG thread is here: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1845002/essen-spiel-17

One more note on Spiel - we'll be meeting with potential International partners during the show. We have some names/meetings already, but If you know a company that would be a perfect fit to partner with for Rise of Tribes, please let us know in the comments, and we'll visit their booth!

Backerkit Pledge Lockdown!
We're close to 96% surveys in. The time has come to lockdown all post Kickstarter pledges, so we can begin to plan the release. As promised, we wanted to give you advance warning and notice about the lockdown and charging of funds. We will look to lockdown on November 20, 2017. This doesn't mean your addresses are locked, changes can still be made for delivery when we get closer to shipping.

We're about to enter production, and I know many would like to know our timeline! We will give more detail on this in coming updates as well as open back up discussion of game leader powers, play tests, tournament and solo rules exploration, etc. Happy to share more about the game until it's on your tabletop!

Thank you all so much and cheers!

Gen Con 50 - Mammoth vs Sabertooth!
4 months ago – Thu, Aug 17, 2017 at 01:36:29 AM

Hi everyone!

Things are progressing in Rise of Tribes world. We have so much to share, and hope everyone is enjoying great games. In this update, we'll prep everyone for the backerkit survey coming this week, explain what we're up to at the "Best Four Days in Gaming", (the now sold out! Gen Con 50th), and also give you some peeks into the progress of Rise of Tribes pieces.

But first - art! A look at one of our audience voted animals unique to one tile in the game. Your tribe might want to watch out for this lake...

Backerkit Survey and Pre-orders About to Begin

This week, finally - our survey launches. Thanks for your patience! As of this week, we'll be opening up the survey, also allowing upgrades. You will receive an email invite coming soon to participate. For all Kickstarter backers, any level - we are offering all the prices posted during the campaign. If anyone has friends who missed the Kickstarter, we will also have a pre-order - not quite Kickstarter price, but is a savings over the game's MSRP.

Gen Con 50
Tomorrow, Aug 17, Gen Con begins and takes over a bit of Indianapolis, Indiana. Breaking Games is a sponsor of the show, and can be found at Booth #2329. We'll have party games, strategy games, family games, new releases (Asking for Trobils and The King's Abbey 2nd editions, Sparkle*Kitty, Aura), games you can only get from our booth and much more. We have a huge Gen Con deal to celebrate the 50th anniversary, 50% our 4 new releases for the first 150 visitors and 10% after that, with social shout out. We also have tournaments (2017 championships for Letter Tycoon and The Game of 49).

And we'll have Rise of Tribes of course. We're actually building a Rise of Tribes hut in the booth. We have large scale images of our tribal backgrounds, and have a photo op with two leader standees. Plus, Brad Brooks joins us to lead the tribe in demos.

TEAM MAMMOTH and TEAM SABERTOOTH
Just for fun, we'll be handing Gen Con attendees out a choice of ribbon to attach to their badges. Which team would you pick?

Pre-Production Progress
On the pre-production front, we're working on several things at once. Balancing of all tribal faction powers, tweaking events and defining the new leader meeples. The Dananu had a strong peaceful power ("Agriculture" - villages generate food), but the warring side of their play style needed work, and has found it's place with "Cunning" (can pay to begin conflict without population limit trigger, once per turn). The Tunga "Hidden Village" power is being adjusted a bit from it's powerful edge (now your 2nd village), and their "Light in the Dark" power upgraded, moons can be changed to suns. Events - Mammoth taming is up a point as it's hard to do. And the leaders, they have found their calling. They can enter optionally on any village you build and allow you to pay another tribe for a development benefit once per turn. But - Watch out as your foes may take out a leader for valuable points. As we all know, that's what tribes really want most. We think these changes have made for a really rounded out, balanced game and we're excited to lock it down for final rulebook coming up.

This may or may not interest everyone, but I wanted to share a style guide we made on meeples. This shows basic size comparisons, and other goals. Subject to change when we enter production, but I thought it was a fun look into the process. I can share the box progress in a future update!

Thank you for reading. Please let us know if you have any questions or issues when you get your survey, and if you're at Gen Con - come by and say hello!

Tribes in the wild...
5 months ago – Fri, Jul 14, 2017 at 12:06:15 AM

Hey all,

Peter here, checking in from the development hut. In about two weeks, we'll post info on Backer Kit surveys. Before then, hi again (and thanks!) and a quick update on our next 2 shows where you'll see Rise of Tribes and more. PLUS, a look at some tribal allies on Kickstarter.

First, our final Jungle tile art is in! We could sure get lost in this art!

COMIC-CON
Breaking Games is at Comic-Con, in the webcomics section (#1234) with our pals Cyanide and Happiness, Joking Hazard - also funded on Kickstarter! We're there releasing a cool toy figurine (a Pixel Party version of The Tick! - design by Blaise Sewell and Razlo Bailey), and we'll have first ever copies of our party game Sparkle*Kitty (design by Manny Vega). This all being said, if you are there and want to try Rise of Tribes, YES! Let's do it! Come find us!

GEN CON
Breaking Games is a sponsor of Gen Con (Booth #2329), and we'll have a Rise of Tribes dedicated space in our booth, all day, every day! We'll have the debut of Asking for Trobils 2nd Edition! (designed by Christian Strain (yes, our KS campaign guy!) and Erin McDonald - originally funded on Kickstarter). In the event section, we'll also have demos of The King's Abbey 2nd Ed. (another awesome Kickstarter original, Aura, 4 The Birds, Letter Tycoon and The Game of 49 2017 championship tourneys!, and much more.

The Community of Kickstarter!
In typing the above, it's really cool how many connections there are, and in particular how many games Kickstarter has tied together. It's a small world. Our friends at Dragoon told everyone about Rise of Tribes, so we're happy to shout out a couple of allies here, KS projects we think you should know about, if you haven't backed already!

Christian, Brad and myself are members of The League of Gamemakers - a blog about game design, publishing (incl. Kickstarter)  2 other Leaguers have launched epic looking campaigns THIS WEEK. Both campaigns with wicked looking meeple pieces btw. That's wild! Have you seen:

Legendary Creatures - by Pencil First Games (by leaguer Eduardo Baraf)

Unbelievable card combos and gameplay here. And look at those meeples! Our tribe covets them!

Crusaders: Thy Will Be Done by TMG (design by leaguer Seth Jaffee)
This game is epic looking. TMG of course is a KS pro member, and it shows. There's meeples AND minis. What?? Oooh, and a cool mancala mechanic...

Epoch: The Awakening Design by Marc Neidlinger (a proud backer of Rise of Tribes he tells me - Hi Marc!). Our friends at Print and Play are connected with this innovative looking game.  Chase Van Epps at Print and Play (responsible for many of our awesome Rise of Tribes prototypes) is listed in the game development credits here - very cool!

One more! Gen Con Video Bonanza 2017
This is a connection that ties many Kickstarters together. Bower's Game Corner does many many many Kickstarter previews, and of course Forrest Bower covered Rise of Tribes as well. ROCK ON! He is looking for funding so he can cover all of Gen Con, and Essen too. Bower's Game Corner brings a true passion for games to his reviews, and we love it. Breaking Games is donating swag to the cause.

Whew! It's a jungle out there, navigating all the amazing things on Kickstarter. Talk again in a couple weeks!

Our Tribe Rises!
5 months ago – Fri, Jul 07, 2017 at 12:58:01 AM

We did it! To all of our backers, thank you so much! Some of us at Breaking Games would like to thank you personally with a short message.

Shari Spiro - Producer

I am honored and humbled by the response to this game - and in equal awe of how our team has responded to each of the backer's questions. It has been an amazing thing to experience first hand the feeling of community and support that everyone has put forth during this Kickstarter. May it be the start of many exciting Rise of Tribes games to come - as this is a game that will keep families and gamers coming back for years of enjoyment.

I have to say that I am the biggest fan of Rise of tribes, and I would like to especially thank Brad Brooks for designing it - Peter Vaughan for developing it - Christian Strain for leading our Kickstarter - Kat Mooney for pricing it - and for the great production work to come - Sergio Chaves for drawing it and Astrid Dalmady for finding Sergio. Special thanks also to Wes Straub and Marshall Gill for their Wesness and Marshmallowness - Aaron Demark who will be handling sales of retail worldwide - our entire team at Ad Magic -Breaking games and our many fans, Retailers, translators, and friends who came together on this project. The awesome response and the camaraderie of this Tribe community is something we hope will continue To grow, move, gather, and lead. Thanks! You all rock.

Brad Brooks - Designer

I’m overwhelmed by the response we’ve gotten to Rise of Tribes. A huge “Thank You” to all the backers who have joined our tribe, and to the many tribe members who worked so hard to make the game and the campaign such a success.

Peter Vaughan - Developer

Thank you Rise of Tribes! (that's you now). We at Breaking Games make tons of games. Strategy, family, party! We print 'em and go to all the shows. It's a heck of a lot of fun making games, (this one I've been working on with Brad for a year and a half!) but it's not nearly as fun as what we all just did, the last 30 days. We made this game as a team, and we made it EPIC! Meeples and modular gameplay crammed into two glorious boxes of tabletop goodness. A quick gateway civilization game for everyone. Everything from the Facebook polls to the pictures of meeples in nature, the foreign language PDF's we're making now in 8 languages, the stretch goal map ideas, and the ideas for expansions and scenarios to come; all of it was amazing. And now, a huge print run, as fast as we can, to get to 15 points. (that's what all tribes want, after all).

Thank you sincerely, from our heart! Cheers!"

P.S. A special thank you to Sergio Chaves for making me say WOW almost every day when I get my email.

Christian Strain - Campaign Manager

I have to honestly say, you guys knocked past all of our expectations! In the beginning of a Kickstarter campaign, we had a game we wanted to make, a version of that game we hoped we could make, and a final version that was just a dream. You guys made the dream happen!

We can't thank you enough, not just for backing Rise of Tribes, but for being involved and sharing your enthusiasm. It's been a great experience running this campaign for Breaking Games. I hope to see all of you on our next adventure!

From all of Breaking Games, Thank you so much!
