Hi everyone! 

Things are progressing in Rise of Tribes world. We have so much to share, and hope everyone is enjoying great games. In this update, we'll prep everyone for the backerkit survey coming this week, explain what we're up to at the "Best Four Days in Gaming", (the now sold out! Gen Con 50th), and also give you some peeks into the progress of Rise of Tribes pieces.

But first - art! A look at one of our audience voted animals unique to one tile in the game. Your tribe might want to watch out for this lake...

 Backerkit Survey and Pre-orders About to Begin

This week, finally - our survey launches. Thanks for your patience! As of this week, we'll be opening up the survey, also allowing upgrades. You will receive an email invite coming soon to participate. For all Kickstarter backers, any level - we are offering all the prices posted during the campaign. If anyone has friends who missed the Kickstarter, we will also have a pre-order - not quite Kickstarter price, but is a savings over the game's MSRP.

Gen Con 50
Tomorrow, Aug 17, Gen Con begins and takes over a bit of Indianapolis, Indiana. Breaking Games is a sponsor of the show, and can be found at Booth #2329. We'll have party games, strategy games, family games, new releases (Asking for Trobils and The King's Abbey 2nd editions, Sparkle*Kitty, Aura), games you can only get from our booth and much more. We have a huge Gen Con deal to celebrate the 50th anniversary, 50% our 4 new releases for the first 150 visitors and 10% after that, with social shout out. We also have tournaments (2017 championships for Letter Tycoon and The Game of 49).

And we'll have Rise of Tribes of course. We're actually building a Rise of Tribes hut in the booth. We have large scale images of our tribal backgrounds, and have a photo op with two leader standees. Plus, Brad Brooks joins us to lead the tribe in demos.

Just for fun, we'll be handing Gen Con attendees out a choice of ribbon to attach to their badges. Which team would you pick?

Pre-Production Progress
On the pre-production front, we're working on several things at once. Balancing of all tribal faction powers, tweaking events and defining the new leader meeples. The Dananu had a strong peaceful power ("Agriculture" - villages generate food), but the warring side of their play style needed work, and has found it's place with "Cunning" (can pay to begin conflict without population limit trigger, once per turn). The Tunga "Hidden Village" power is being adjusted a bit from it's powerful edge (now your 2nd village), and their "Light in the Dark" power upgraded, moons can be changed to suns. Events - Mammoth taming is up a point as it's hard to do. And the leaders, they have found their calling. They can enter optionally on any village you build and allow you to pay another tribe for a development benefit once per turn. But - Watch out as your foes may take out a leader for valuable points. As we all know, that's what tribes really want most. We think these changes have made for a really rounded out, balanced game and we're excited to lock it down for final rulebook coming up.

This may or may not interest everyone, but I wanted to share a style guide we made on meeples. This shows basic size comparisons, and other goals. Subject to change when we enter production, but I thought it was a fun look into the process. I can share the box progress in a future update!

Tribes in the wild...

Hey all,

Peter here, checking in from the development hut. In about two weeks, we'll post info on Backer Kit surveys. Before then, hi again (and thanks!) and a quick update on our next 2 shows where you'll see Rise of Tribes and more. PLUS, a look at some tribal allies on Kickstarter.

First, our final Jungle tile art is in! We could sure get lost in this art!

 

COMIC-CON
Breaking Games is at Comic-Con, in the webcomics section (#1234) with our pals Cyanide and Happiness, Joking Hazard - also funded on Kickstarter! We're there releasing a cool toy figurine (a Pixel Party version of The Tick! - design by Blaise Sewell and Razlo Bailey), and we'll have first ever copies of our party game Sparkle*Kitty (design by Manny Vega). This all being said, if you are there and want to try Rise of Tribes, YES! Let's do it! Come find us!

GEN CON
Breaking Games is a sponsor of Gen Con (Booth #2329), and we'll have a Rise of Tribes dedicated space in our booth, all day, every day! We'll have the debut of Asking for Trobils 2nd Edition! (designed by Christian Strain (yes, our KS campaign guy!) and Erin McDonald - originally funded on Kickstarter). In the event section, we'll also have demos of The King's Abbey 2nd Ed. (another awesome Kickstarter original, Aura, 4 The Birds, Letter Tycoon and The Game of 49 2017 championship tourneys!, and much more. 

The Community of Kickstarter!
In typing the above, it's really cool how many connections there are, and in particular how many games Kickstarter has tied together. It's a small world. Our friends at Dragoon told everyone about Rise of Tribes, so we're happy to shout out a couple of allies here, KS projects we think you should know about, if you haven't backed already!

Christian, Brad and myself are members of The League of Gamemakers - a blog about game design, publishing (incl. Kickstarter)  2 other Leaguers have launched epic looking campaigns THIS WEEK. Both campaigns with wicked looking meeple pieces btw. That's wild! Have you seen:

This is a connection that ties many Kickstarters together. Bower's Game Corner does many many many Kickstarter previews, and of course Forrest Bower covered Rise of Tribes as well. ROCK ON! I am honored and humbled by the response to this game - and in equal awe of how our team has responded to each of the backer's questions. It has been an amazing thing to experience first hand the feeling of community and support that everyone has put forth during this Kickstarter. May it be the start of many exciting Rise of Tribes games to come - as this is a game that will keep families and gamers coming back for years of enjoyment.

I have to say that I am the biggest fan of Rise of tribes, and I would like to especially thank Brad Brooks for designing it - Peter Vaughan for developing it - Christian Strain for leading our Kickstarter - Kat Mooney for pricing it - and for the great production work to come - Sergio Chaves for drawing it and Astrid Dalmady for finding Sergio. Thank you Rise of Tribes! (that's you now). We at Breaking Games make tons of games. Strategy, family, party! We print 'em and go to all the shows. It's a heck of a lot of fun making games, (this one I've been working on with Brad for a year and a half!) but it's not nearly as fun as what we all just did, the last 30 days. We made this game as a team, and we made it EPIC! Meeples and modular gameplay crammed into two glorious boxes of tabletop goodness. A quick gateway civilization game for everyone. Everything from the Facebook polls to the pictures of meeples in nature, the foreign language PDF's we're making now in 8 languages, the stretch goal map ideas, and the ideas for expansions and scenarios to come; all of it was amazing. And now, a huge print run, as fast as we can, to get to 15 points. (that's what all tribes want, after all).

I have to honestly say, you guys knocked past all of our expectations! In the beginning of a Kickstarter campaign, we had a game we wanted to make, a version of that game we hoped we could make, and a final version that was just a dream. You guys made the dream happen!

We can't thank you enough, not just for backing Rise of Tribes, but for being involved and sharing your enthusiasm. It's been a great experience running this campaign for Breaking Games. I hope to see all of you on our next adventure!

Last of the Tribes Art

We've added many new members to our tribe! Welcome all, and thank you for joining us. We're almost to 5000 backers, and we have surpassed the final $300K Stretch Goal giving us these unique meeples! Thank you all so much for bringing this game to fruition in the best possible way.

Mountain Animal Selected

In case you're new, we've been having polls to decide which animal art would appear on different tiles. One of the Forest tiles got Dire Wolves, a Lake tile has a mysterious creature beneath the water, and now we are calling the third and final poll for the Giant Condor!

I personally voted for this one, so I'm very pleased. This beautiful bird on a Mountain hex will be great to see. Thank you to all of you who participated in our Facebook Group and polls!

Kia Kia Art Completed

Finally, the Kia Kia art is completed by Sergio! Just in time before the end.

Now I can't decide which Tribe art is my favorite!

Final Push

All of our Stretch Goals are completed. The game is what we had always hoped for, thanks to you. New Art and Stretch Goals!

We can almost see the end of our great journey with 3 days to go!

Welcome to all of the new tribe members we have picked up along the way. We just passed 4,000 backers this weekend! Recently we've hit Stretch Goals and Social Stretch Goals. We also have some new, exciting Stretch Goals to discuss and new art to show!

Chieftain Stretch Goal Unlocked  

We unlocked the Stretch Goal for a new Event and token for the Chieftain.  


The Chieftain event is shuffled in to the Events deck after the first village in the game is built. It is a unique single moment event; a resource bid for victory points (1 or 2 VP depending on total resources spent). The winner is awarded the token, and then must distribute the paid resources out to the other tribes, as they see fit. 

Leader Meeples Social Stretch Goal Unlocked 

Our last Social Stretch Goal was unlocked and now we have these amazing Leader Meeples!


Leader meeples are a variant/advanced rule in the game, after players are familiar with regular rules. They are build-able by all tribes once there is a village on the board, so be aware of this when you race to settle first.

We are actively testing various scenarios where they have lasting effects over certain dice actions versus single once-per-game powers. We will update you with more information. We are excited that this community stood together and made these possible by completing all the social goals! It takes a village, indeed.

The Next Stretch Goal


Our Next Stretch Goal is new art for the Deluxe Box, plus animal art being added to the common tiles.

The art for the Deluxe Box isn't final, but this is the direction it is going. You will be able to take the pieces out and fit them into the Standard Box if you want to combine them. Personally, I think the Deluxe Box will look great on my shelf!

New Animal on the Lake Tile


We've been running polls in our Facebook Group to determine which animals would be added to one Forest, Lake, and Mountain tile in the game. The first poll resulted a Dire Wolf being added to a Forest tile.

Now we have the results of the second poll for the Lake tile. Anyone who was participating in the poll knows already, the mysterious shadow beneath the waters is our winner by a landslide!

The Final Animal for the Mountain Tile

Finally, our Mountain tile needs an animal for when this Stretch Goal hits. For the mountain tile, we are bringing back the Cave Bear! It was nearly the winner in the first poll. Fighting the bear for the Mountain spot is the Woolly Rhino and the Giant Condor!

Go to our new Facebook poll and give us your vote! As always, if you share the poll, your vote is counted twice!

The Last Stretch Goal


After the Deluxe Box Art and Animal Art Stretch Goal, we have one final Stretch Goal to take us home! Many of you have seen it on the page already, and we've been excited to bring it to you.


The shapes of these are still being examined by the manufacturer to make sure they're possible, so these may change slightly, but these are close to finished.

The Danãnu Tribe

We have been eagerly waiting for Sergio to send us final art on the two tribes that were unlocked. Finally, the Danãnu!


Personally, I think this might be my favorite art for the males.
